| February 2010 The Southampton City Council Archaeological Unit carried out an archaeological evaluation excavation of the site from 8 - 17 February, because the site lies in an area of archaeological importance - it lies immediately adjacent to a Bronze Age barrow cemetery and the route of the Roman road from Chichester to Clausentum (Bitterne Manor) passes close by. The whole site was covered by a matrix of 19 trenches. Although it lies in an area of bronze age barrows, no evidence of such features was found on the site. |
