Women's Aid

One in four women experience domestic abuse at some time in their lives. It can affect people of any age, any background. The abuse may be physical, emotional, financial, sexual – or a combination of these, in fact any controlling behaviour which leaves a woman living in fear. If such things are happening to you, you probably feel very isolated.

Southampton Women’s Aid workers in Thornhill are here to offer help, advice, information and support to women who are experiencing abuse or who have experienced it in the past. We understand how difficult it can be to speak of these things. We will not judge you or tell you what to do.

The effects of domestic violence on children and young people can last for years, whether they experience it directly or indirectly. Women’s Aid has a children and young person’s outreach service. Some of the issues we cover are, what do we mean by domestic violence, looking at the effects of domestic violence on children and young people, building self esteem and keeping safe. The phone number for this service is the same as for the Women’s Outreach Service

When you contact us if you get the answerphone leave your number if it is safe to do so, and we will ring you back. Otherwise keep trying. Particularly good times to ring are Monday mornings, Tuesday lunchtimes and Friday afternoons.
